Richard Chartier has specialized in cutting edge design and art direction cultivating notoriety for his clean minimal formalist aesthetic in graphics and typography for the past 15 years. His extensive experience in print design and applications including logos, posters, invitations, books, fliers, packaging, annual reports, and magazines as well as website art direction has led him to work with a multitude of non-profit art, culture, environmental and educational institutions and groups as well as for corporations and individuals.
Prior to his art direction/design consulting work of the past 9 years he was employed as senior designer and assistant art director for the non profit organizations the Academy for Educational Development, the American Association of University Women, and VSA Arts.
Chartier holds a Bachelor's of Fine Arts Degree in Graphic Design and Painting from James Madison University. His design work has been exhibited galleries in Europe and Canada with the touring design exhibits 35mm/design in miniature, VS., and Apocrypha, and has been featured in several books on international contemporary design.
Chartier is proficient in MAC OSX environment and in current versions of INDESIGN, ILLUSTRATOR, PHOTOSHOP, and QUARK XPRESS as well as pre-press with extensive experience dealing with print vendors directly from quotes to on site press inspections from 1 color to 4color process and specialty press work. Clients have often noted his efficiency in production scheduling especially concerning layout of books and periodicals and working within tight time constraints. For larger projects he works with an additional team of production artists to ensure swift turnaround.
